Love has been an integral part of human existence since the beginning of time. It is a powerful force that can bring people together, heal wounds, and inspire us to be our best selves. However, in a world filled with conflict, injustice, and uncertainty, it can be easy to lose sight of the power of love and the hope that it brings. Despite these challenges, we firmly believe that love will always prevail in the end.

In a recent post on The Technologian, there was a blatant attack on UNITED's credibility as a party. UNITED strongly believes in the importance of democracy. Hence, it is not within our foundation to compromise the sanctity of the 2023 CIT-U SSG General Elections by depriving the Technologians of the right to choose their candidates.

Contrary to the implication of the post from The Technologian, the inaction of the other party to field candidates for the executive positions does not warrant grave abuse of power of UNITED nor the officers seated in the Supreme Student Government. In fact, the power to make decisions with finality lies in the Commission on Elections. Except for cases where both parties have no executive candidates, the lack of an opponent does not necessitate a reopening of the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs). This is seen in both local and national elections.

UNITED for CIT University seeks justice and fairness by not agreeing with the idea of reopening the filing for three reasons. Firstly, our party did our due diligence and abided by the deadline of March 8, 2023, set by the Commission on Elections. Secondly, due to our commitment to properly represent the collegiate body, a few of our representatives were charged with an approximate total of Php 2,000 as a penalty for the late submission of documents. Thirdly, our party has also a fair share of five vacant seats in the slate. However, we respect the jurisdiction of the Commission on Elections and owned up to our shortcomings in filling the said positions.

Furthermore, UNITED remains firm in its role as an avenue for growth for aspiring leaders. As such, it should stay as our commitment to hone leaders by equipping them with the necessary tools and training sessions to empower them to take higher positions and accept bigger responsibilities in pursuit of service to the student body. This commitment should not only manifest during election season and should be upheld right from the start.

We, therefore, call on the Commission on Elections, The Technologian Student Press, and all the members of the Technologian community to be pursuers of factual information and enforcers of the principle of due process in investigating matters and forming decisions.

In the very words of VP Leni Robredo, "Mas Radikal ang Magmahal" and UNITED still choose to love. By choosing to love with greater courage, compassion, and empathy, we can build stronger communities, foster deeper connections, and create a more just and equitable world for all. Together, let us choose to love, prevail, and work together to create a brighter future for ourselves and for the Technologian Community.
